Wells and water supply

A short description of our water supply work: what BalRock does when building, maintaining and decommissioning a well.

Well design and drilling

Our experience and database help us design and build a drilled well almost anywhere in Estonia. Our machinery can drill a shallow well into the first aquifer for a single household as well as a deep well or a group of wells for the water intake of a whole town.

We are among the few who can offer a well even where the geological section is difficult: the water-bearing rock is crumbly and collapses, sand tends to come with the water and the aquifer yields little. In such cases a good well needs its water-bearing part secured with special filters, which we source from GWE GmbH, a leading European manufacturer in this field.

Geothermal borehole design and drilling

Heating buildings with ground heat from boreholes, which has grown more and more popular in recent years, is also part of our services. We carry out the heat calculations, prepare the borehole design and do the drilling.

Pumps, pumping stations, tanks, water supply systems

So that a well is more than a pipe end sticking out of the ground, we offer outdoor water supply as a turnkey package: we install a suitable pump in the well, build a pumping station and tanks where needed, install a pressure tank and automation and, where needed, water treatment equipment, and build the pipelines in the station and from the station to the consumers.

Among pump makers we are the importer for the well-known manufacturer SAER Elettropompe S.r.l., whose range includes all kinds of pumps for both clean water and wastewater. We also renovate the structure and technology of existing worn-out pumping stations.

Video surveys of wells

BalRock's equipment includes a video camera for filming wells. It can film wells up to 500 m deep and gives an adequate expert assessment of the condition of the casing and filters.

Well maintenance and repair

During its life a well, like many other structures, needs maintenance from time to time and occasionally repair or rebuilding. Maintenance mostly means cleaning the well by pumping, which washes out the sediment collected at the bottom, cleans the inside of the pipes, sets the well's new operating parameters and includes water analyses. Signs that a well needs maintenance are worsening water quality, sand in the pumped water and the pump running dry now and then or often.

A well needs repair or rebuilding when a pump or other objects have fallen into it, the casing has rusted through and leaks, or some vandal has filled it with rubbish. In these cases too we are ready to help and put the well in order.

Well decommissioning

After decades a well, like most structures, wears out so far that it has to be decommissioned (demolished, in the terms of the Building Code). The same applies when a well is left without an owner or is no longer used for some other reason. To avoid endangering the environment, such wells must be decommissioned too. We offer this service as well.

Post holes and earthing boreholes

We drill all kinds of post holes and earthing holes, also with a larger diameter than usual (up to 1000 mm), and in rock as well.
